From Gujarat to Assam, there is a time lag of 2 hours. Therefore, 82° 30′ North has been selected as the standard meridian of India. India’s contacts with the world have continued through ages. But, her relationships through the sea routes are much older than its land routes.

India occupies an important strategic position in South Asia. It has 28 states and 8 Union Territories. It shares its land boundaries with Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tibet (China), Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Suez canal separates India from Sri Lanka.  India has had a strong Historical and Geographical links with her neighbors.
