CONCEPT BEHIND ELON MUSK’S HYPERLOOP TECHNOLOGY

The concept of Elon Musk Hyperloop technology is very simple.

Every child love to play with magnets. Magnets attract pins and we all have tried this in our childhood days. While doing these experiments we also see that the two ends of magnet attract and repel each other. Later on we read in science that opposite poles attract and same poles repel. Also, children during the rainy season make paper boats and allow it to travel through pipe along with the flow of water. You leave the boat at one end and then run to collect it from the other end. DO YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE UNIQUE ? Musk’s Hyperloop is also based on magnetic poles and pipes.

A pipe is laid on pillars which has an entry and exit doors.

There is a capsule like pod for the passengers.

When the passengers take their seat, the pod gate is closed.

This pod is pushed in the pipe and finally the pipe is also closed.

The pipe has air inside which is sucked by vacuum pipes.

These vacuum pipes are made to suck 90 percent air.

For the passengers there is sufficient air in the compartment (Pod)

The front of the pod is North and so is the other end of the pipe.

The pod also has a fan in the front to suck the 10 percent air which is in the pipe.

If it is not sucked, the air in front will get compressed and will reduce the speed.

The fan in front is rotated in opposite direction to decrease the speed or to stop the pod.

ADVANTAGE OF ELON MUSK’S HYPERLOOP TECHNOLOGY:

  1. SAVES TIME: 

Hyperloops are very fast which can run at a speed of 1200 Km per hour.

Therefore, long distances can be covered in a short span of time.

2. ALL WEATHER TRANSPORT:

Hyperloops can move in all types of climate and weather conditions. CLASS IX – CLIMATE  Since the pod in a closed tube (pipe),

so even if the weather outside is sunny, rainy, foggy, it is not going to affect this system of transportation.

3. FREE FROM TRAFFIC JAM: 

Hyperloops will run in a pipe. Therefore, there is no question of traffic. Unless and until the pod reaches the destination, the other pod cannot run in the same tube. In this way it is least affected by traffic.

4. SAFE AND JERK FREE JOURNEY:

As the system is totally driven by technology, it is safe. All other means of transport has high risk with increasing speed. But, Hyperloops are comparatively safer than other means of transport. The system is highly mechanized and uses high level of technology. Moreover, many precautionary measures are taken before, during and after the journey to ensure the safety of passengers. As the Hyperloops  run in air within the pipes with the help of magnetic force, therefore no friction and no jerks.

5. CHEAP AND AFFORDABLE:

Bullet trains and airplanes are fast but at the same time they are very costly. These means of transport are not for the common people. Only rich people can afford to travel by bullet trains or airplanes. In case of Hyperloops, the initial cost of laying down the pipes is costly but it’s running cost is very  low. As there is no fuel required to run Hyperloops, therefore, it is cheap, economical, affordable. It is going to be a boon for common people in near future.

6. ECO-FRIENDLY:

All the means of transport require fuel to run. When fuel burns it releases Carbon-di-oxide or carbon mono oxide and triggers  GLOBAL WARMING .  But, Hyperloops do not require any kind of fuel. It is fuel efficient hence eco-friendly. This very feature of hyperloop is attracting the attention of many countries.

7. SAFE FOR ANIMALS:

Many animals die in road and rail accidents. Animals like goat, cow, dogs, elephants etc. all of a sudden come on the road or railway tracks and lose their life. Hyperloops are safe for the animals as well.

DISADVANTAGES OF ELON MUSK’S HYPERLOOP TECHNOLOGY:

Every new technology has some advantages and disadvantages. If Hyperloop saves time it also increases the risk factor. Let’s see what are the demerits of this new technology.

  1. DIZZINESS TO THE PASSENGERS:

High speed of capsule may cause dizziness to the passengers due to vibration. The passengers will always have a fear of accident. The speed of the capsule Hyperloop is almost the speed of sound.

2. HIGHLY RISKY:

With just the slightest crack, air from outside would enter the tube and the total infrastructure would implode. Therefore, it is highly risky and the safety of the passengers is a big question mark? High speed can cause heavy damage and loss making it vulnerable.

3. UNSAFE IN EARTHQUAKE PRONE REGIONS:

Earthquakes are unpredictable. At the time of journey, even the slightest of earthquake can cause huge damage. Therefore, Hyperloop is not a good idea in the earthquake prone regions. 4. TERRORIST ATTACKS:

Hyperloops are known for very low maintenance cost due to its technology and less man power. Therefore, it can be an easy target for the terrorists because it is difficult to monitor 600 to 1000 km of tubes.

5. HIGHLY EXPENSIVE:

The Hyperloop is absurdly expensive. The initial cost of laying down the tube is very high. The entire system is prone to a single point of failure. A simple breach can cause heavy damage to the entire structure and the passengers sitting inside the capsule. Repairing of it will again cost the same amount.

Virgin Hyperloop has trialed its first ever journey with passengers, in the Mojave desert of Nevada. Successful human testing in Hyperloop pod with many benefits has also drawn the attention of India.

The former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis has approved plans to develop a high-speed line between Mumbai and Pune. The planned hyperloop line will connect the two cities which are around 100 miles apart, in just 35 minutes.

However, the new Maharashtra government, as expected, has applied brakes on the existing Hyperloop project.

CONCLUSION:

Though this technology is in its primitive stage but has attracted the attention of all the countries in the world.
