Topics covered:

  1. Geography Chapter 1   : The earth in the solar system.

Chapter 1 Geography: The earth in the solar system.

General Objective:

Firstly, to develop interest in the subject.

Secondly, to apply the knowledge practically in real life.

Finally, developing scientific temperament among the students.

Specific Objective:

  • Students will acquire knowledge about the Solar System.
  • They will also know about the difference between a planet and a star.
  • Students will also learn about the importance of earth in our Solar System  What is solar system?.

Checking Previous Knowledge:

At first, the teacher checks the previous knowledge of the students by asking a question.

Which one is a planet the earth or the sun?

How many planets are there in our solar system?

Introducing Topic:

Now, the teacher introduces the topic by asking basic questions like:

Teacher: Where do we all live?

Student’s response: Earth

Teacher: From where do the earth get light in the day time?

Student’s answer: From the sun.

Teacher: How many planets are there?

Student’s answer: Teacher eight, no teacher nine….

Teacher: Do all planets get light from the sun?

Student: Yes

Teacher: Why don’t we see the sun at night?

Students are unable to answer this question.

Statement of Topic

Now, the teacher will announce the topic. Today we are going to study about “The earth in the solar system”.

Teaching Method: Story Telling

We know that, Solar system is the family of the Sun.

Therefore, the Sun is the head of the family.

Now, the sun has eight children called planets.

Not only that, It also has Grand children such as asteroids, meteors, satellite etc.

Therefore, it is a small family of planets and satellites in our solar system.

But, they all live together happily in a Grand house called “The Milky-Way.

Moreover, Children and grandchildren love the head of the family so much that they keep revolving around it whole day.

Everyone respects sun and therefore is regarded as a star of the family.

It is the only star in the entire  Solar System.

Now, if anyone asks you what is a solar system, you can easily answer that “the sun and all the objects that orbit (Revolve) around it”.

So, Do you want to know more about the Planets  in our solar system?

After narrating this story, the students will develop interest in the subject.

Taking the advantage, the teacher starts explaining the chapter.

Text Book, Black Board, Images and PPT

Technique:

Interactive with common examples.

However, the teacher uses various methods to make the topic interesting by interacting with the children in the class.

By asking very simple questions, the teacher draws the attention of the class.

Also make sure that the children are involved in the discussion.

Therefore, While interacting with the students, the teacher also tells about different types of planets

First Activity : Day 1

Draw the Solar System and color it. Also name all the planets.

Objective: To know about the position of planets in our solar system.

Duration: 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, the teacher asks the students to interchange their notebooks.

Now, asks the students to check and award marks out of 10.

Second Activity: Day 2

Open Book Assessment.

Objective: To know more about our solar system.

Preparation: Preparing 5 simple questions from the chapter.

Q1. Which is the largest planet?

Q2. Name the smallest planet.

Q3. What is the position of earth in our solar system?

Q4. Which planet has a ring?

Q5. Why earth is called a blue planet?

Duration: 20 minutes

After 20 minutes, the teacher asks the students to interchange their notebooks.

Now, asks the students to check and award marks out of 10.

Class work:

  1. i) Objective and short answer type questions will be done.
  2. ii) Long answer type questions will be discussed and done in the class.

Home-work:

Draw or paste or make a model of our solar system.

Values imparted:

  • Becoming responsible just like sun.
  • Living together in harmony like our planets.
  • Rise Early and Surely Everyday like sun.
  • Sensitization towards mother earth.

Multidisciplinary Integrated learning:

  1. Calculate the distance of earth and moon from sun.
  2. Hindi: write a poem on our mother earth.
  3. Art: Draw any one artificial satellite.
  4. Science: Why there is life only on earth?
