WHAT IS SOLAR ECLIPSE?
Solar eclipse occur when the moon comes between the earth and the sun. The moon blocks the sun’s rays from reaching the earth. It casts its shadow on parts of earth. There are mainly three types of eclipses. They are:
i) Partial solar eclipse: Partial solar eclipse takes place only when moon partially hide the sun and casts only it’s penumbra on earth.
Moon is smaller than both earth and sun.
The Moon’s disk is not big enough to cover the entire disk of sun. Therefore, the sun’s outer edges are visible to form the Ring of Fire.It happens only when the Moon is farthest from the earth. This position of moon is known as Apogee.
iii) Total Solar Eclipse: Total solar eclipse takes place when moon entirely covers sun. It is possible when the Moon is between Sun and earth and the moon’s position is nearest to the earth. This position of moon in Geography is known as Perigee.

Another reason is, when the moon blocks the sun, the temperature falls rapidly. Sudden increase or decrease in temperature gives birth to many types of insects and bacteria. That is why vibrations are created in the temples by ringing the bell, clapping, enchanting mantras, playing Nagada and by blowing shankh during the dawn and dusk time.
